Agritourism in Ontario
Farms, Dairies & Hayrides Galore
Agricultural tourism is a heavy hitter for visitors and residents of eastern Canada.
Are you looking to pick your own fruits and vegetables, or browse through a local farmers’ market?
Would you like to bring home some local honey or maple syrup after a scenic drive through the country? Just head to Ontario for agricultural adventure throughout the province, and support local business all along the way.
Canada’s largest city, Toronto is immediately surrounded by farmland scattered across rolling hills. So many farms featuring fruits, vegetables, meat, dairy, lavender, honey, and maple syrup are found throughout the countryside that we cannot possibly recount them all here – but we’ll try.
Northern Ontario features farmers’ markets and more in towns like Cochrane, Sioux Lookout, Kenora, and Dryden. Be sure to grab some gouda at the Thunder Oak Cheese Farm, and don’t miss welcoming farmsteads like Gammondale Farm Family Fun and Belluz Farms, near Thunder Bay.
Ontario’s southern region is packed with agricultural adventure. Family farms, markets, roadside stands, and fresh produce in the form of fruit, honey, syrup, and meats – plus alpaca, nurseries, and herbs dot the Niagara and southwestern Ontario landscape.
The Ottawa area is no stranger to inner city agriculture as well as countryside attractions. Check out Proulx Maple & Berry Farm, or Bytown markets from May through November.
Agritourists can enjoy a stunning roadtrip across Ontario, or take advantage of some quick day trips outside your city – either way you’re getting fresh produce while experiencing Ontario’s farm country.
