8 Fishing Holes in Ontario!

Featuring over 400,000 lakes, rivers, and streams, Ontario's northern and southern regions feature some of the best angling opportunities in Canada.

Here are eight great fishing holes in Ontario:

1. Wabigoon Lake

Load up your tackle box and grab your fishing rods – Wabigoon Lake’s 114 miles of shoreline give way to plenty of big time, freshwater catches. You’ll find Wabigoon Lake just outside of the community of Dryden.

2. Quetico Provincial Park

Cast off from towering, rugged cliffs or tranquil shorelines into one of Quetico Provicial Park’s many lakes and rivers, spread across 460,000 hectares of wilderness. The park is near the Canadian/Minnesota boarder – just a short drive from Thunder Bay.

3. Greenwood Conservation Area

Escape the hustle and bustle of the big city by visiting this scenic respite – located in the heart of Toronto. Greenwood Conservation Area features excellent lake and rainbow trout fishing, as they migrate from Lake Ontario into Duffins Creek.

4. Humber Bay Park

Boasting great fishing opportunities, Humber Bay Park sits at the western end of Lake Ontario in Toronto. Novice fishermen, pros, and everyone in between enjoy casting out from the shoreline rocks, the marina, or from the deck of a boat.

5. Lake St. Peter Provincial Park

Bancroft visitors with boat in tow can cast off onto Lake St. Peter, where Lake Trout and bass are plentiful. No boat, no problem. Canoes are available for rent, while the sandy beaches aren’t too shabby themselves.

6. Bruce Peninsula National Park

With the Georgian Bay and Lake Huron surrounding, Bruce Peninsula National Park certainly has no shortage of deep, cool waters – chock full of large salmon and lake trout. Drop your own boat in or take advantage of the charter fishing and boat tours – all just a short drive north of Owen Sound.

7. Mississippi Lake

Just outside of Ottawa near the town of Smith Falls, Mississippi Lake is ideal for shore anglers or those with boat in tow. Featured catches include walleye, largemouth and smallmouth bass, pike, and more. Bring the whole family – Mississippi Lake also houses picnic areas and a playground.

8. Dow's Lake

Created by the Rideau Canal and Rideau River, Dow’s Lake receives plenty of incoming freshwater fish. Ottawa anglers can rent pedal boats, kayaks, and rowboats for tranquil angling opportunities fit for any skill level.
