Thunder Bay International Airport
The seventh busiest airport in Ontario, Thunder Bay International Airport, (YQT) – or simply Thunder Bay Airport – is a public use airport serving the city of Thunder Bay. Set in northern Ontario, YQT was first established in 1938 as Fort William Municipal Airport.
YQT supports several airlines including Jazz Aviation, Bearskin Airlines, Porter Airlines, Wasaya Airways, and WestJet. When visiting Thunder Bay, or flying to or from YQT, be sure to check into a nearby Best Western hotel.
Thunder Oak Cheese Farm
Northern Ontario is not only home to the Algonquin Provincial Park, but is also home to a wonderful Gouda cheese farm. The family-owned Thunder Oak Cheese Farm, located southwest of Thunder Bay, was established in 1981 by Jacob and Margaret Schep. The Schep's family lineage includes a long line of cheese-makers from Holland.
Margaret learned the cheese-making process from her mother, a World Champion cheese maker, before emigrating to Canada. The Scheps make eight varieties of Gouda cheese in a variety of sizes. Step inside the cheese factory to see how the cheese is made. Before leaving, browse the selection of cheese and other Dutch items, including cookies and spices, in the gift store.
