Visiting Northern Ontario
The snow has melted, temperatures are on the rise, and the people of northern Ontario are heading outside to celebrate spring and summer. This season, adventures await in prime examples of the Great Outdoors like Algonquin Provincial Park, and communities from Huntsville to Thunder Bay to Dryden welcome travelers with countless special events, festivals, and activities for the whole family.
The sky above Thunder Bay fills with color on June 5th. That's when the 2016 Thunder Bay Kite Festival brings tons of games, workshops, kite flying demonstrations, live music, and more to Chippewa Park on the shores of Lake Superior. The high-flying fun goes from noon to 4 p.m.
To the north in Sioux Lookout, it's another colorful celebration – but this one's all about the blue. From July 29th through August 7th, the 34th Annual Sioux Lookout Blueberry Festival promises 10 straight days of fun – everything from music and culture to trade shows and sporting events, held in venues all across the city. Check local listings for specific event times during your visit.
Every Wednesday this summer, Huntsville celebrates its musical side with the 2016 Concerts on the Dock series. An eclectic list of musicians and bands are scheduled to perform everything from country to jazz in downtown Huntsville, from April 22nd through August 24th. Don't miss Concerts on the Dock: BonnaWHO? at Lowe Mill East Dock on June 10th – it's sure to be just as much fun as any big music festival.
Celebrate summer with Cochrane residents with a slew of activities including live music, a BBQ competition, fireworks, softball tournament, and so much more, August 4th through 7th. The 2016 Cochrane Summerfest is held near Commando Lake in downtown Cochrane and tickets are available now.
Music is in the air over Sudbury, September 7th through 11th. The 2016 Jazz Sudbury events feature musicians from northern Ontario and all over the world performing on the shores of Lake Ramsey and throughout downtown-area venues.
