Visiting Northern Ontario
Northern Ontario’s season for outdoor adventure is here. The outstanding fishing lakes of northwest Ontario delight anglers in the extended daylight and warm days of spring and summer. Join events at the Alphonse Raymond Teachers’ School of Education and the Laurentian Athletic Field, including the Finnish Marketplace, parade and festival. Sudbury’s FINNFUN2013 is the place to enjoy Finnish food, treats, concerts, dancing and exhibits.
Ontario’s Sunset Country region celebrates the long days of summer at festivals like MooseFest 2013 in Dryden. Join the fun of Dryden’s Teddy Bear Picnic, Music in the Park, and community Canada Day festivities from June 28th through July 7th. Northwestern Ontario’s NLQHA 3-day Quarter Horse Show entertains equestrian enthusiasts; events along the Wabigoon River include dragon boat races and a triathlon; while Cooper Park fills with hot rods and the strong men competitions – there is fun for all at Dryden’s Moosefest.
In Sioux Lookout, 100km northeast of Dryden, celebrate the season at the 2013 Sioux Lookout Blueberry Festival. Join Blueberry Bert and choose from over 130 events over 10 days from August 2nd through 11th. A Sioux Lookout tradition for 31 years, the Blueberry Festival features the Sioux Mountain music and cultural festival, the Roy Lane 10K race, and Cedar Bay wagon rides – enjoy the best of family fun in Sioux Lookout.
West of Dryden in the Northern Ontario community of Kenora, Harbourfest 2013 is a highlight of summer. Celebrate a long August weekend at Harbourfest, northwestern Ontario’s largest music festival. Spend three days from August 2nd to 4th in the scenic Lake of the Woods country enjoying a rock music lineup including Theory of Deadman and Faber Drive.
