Visiting Southern Ontario & Niagara Falls

Summer in Southern Ontario brings the St. Catharines Dragon Boat Festival on the historic Henley, and the 2013 Lighthouse Blues Festival to Kincardine. From the shores of Lake Ontario and Lake Erie, to the Georgian Bay and shores of Lake Huron, travelers enjoy a diversity of events and festivities. Launch the 2013 season in St. Catharines at the In the Soil Arts Festival or Wine & Herb weekends in Niagara on the Lake. A visit to Niagara Falls is a must for southern Ontario travelers. Visit after May 17th and enjoy nightly fireworks, and visit after mid-August to see Niagara Falls illuminated for the evenings in a rainbow of colors.

Spring in Niagara on the Lake brings 52nd season start of the Shaw Festival, the annual theatre festival celebrating the works of George Bernard Shaw. The Festival Theatre opens the 2013 season with Guy's and Doll's, the first of three shows performed at the festival's flagship venue. The 2013 Shaw Festival features 10 shows at four venues, including Major Barbara at the Royal George Theatre, and The Light in the Piazza at the Niagara on the Lake's Court House Theatre. Travelers to southern Ontario's Niagara Falls region enjoy performances through mid-October.

Don’t miss the sight of Tall Ships on your summer travels around the waterways of Southern Ontario. The Tall Ships 1812 Pan Provincial tour through Ontario in summer 2013. See the Tall Ships in Brockville, June 14th through the 16th, and after a stop at Toronto’s Redpath Waterfront Festival see the ships in Hamilton, June 28th through 30th.

Port Dalhousie, in St. Catharines, hosts the Tall Ships from June 28th to 30th before they make their way to the Georgian Bay for mid-August appearances in Owen Sound, and then Midland, August 24th and 25th. Plan your southern Ontario travels for an up-close look and tour of a historic Tall Ship.

A trip to southern Ontario’s community of London is ideal in September. Close summer with a visit to the 2013 Western Fair District, September 6th through 15th. Living up to the tag line "Real Serious Fun," Western Fair features free concerts with headliners including Jo Dee Messina and High Valley. Check out the RCMP Musical Ride, and Cultural Village. Explore award winning Ontario livestock and agriculture, take a thrill ride on the midway rides and sample the fair food. Make London and Western Fair an end of summer destination.

Celebrate the season in Simcoe at Norfolk County’s largest summer event. Join the fun of the Simcoe Rotary Friendship Festival at Wellington Park. The 2013 Friendship Festival celebrates it's 46th year on August 3rd through 5th. Get your ride ready for the soap box derby and put your fun hat on for a full weekend of arts, crafts and festivities.

Experience the Norfolk County Fair & Horse Show to complete your summer fun. Now celebrating its 172nd year, the Norfolk County Fair is Ontario’s fifth largest fair, and one of the oldest. Visit Simcoe October 8th through 14th for the 2013 Norfolk County Fair and Horse Show.
