Travel through Ontario and explore Ottawa. You'll find a wide range of fun and exciting things to do and see – including some of the top universities in the Ottawa area

Whether you're visiting Ottawa itself, or nearby cities like Cornwall and Smiths Falls, be sure to explore the University of Ottawa. One of the oldest schools in the province, the University of Ottawa was established in 1848 as the College of Bytown. Eventually it became the College of Ottawa in 1861, staying as such until 1866.

The University of Ottawa is a public research institution, found in downtown Ottawa, only minutes inland from the Rivière des Outaoais. Some of the premier local attractions include Parliament Hill, the National Gallery of Canada, and the National Arts Centre.

Enjoy a campus tour at the University of Ottawa and visit some of the highlights, like Tabaret Hall, the Morisset Library, and the Brian Dickson Law Library. The SITE Building is the home of U of O's School of Engineering and Computer Science.

In college athletics, the University of Ottawa Gee-Gees field 18 competitive teams, 11 of which are varsity level. The Gee-Gees hockey teams play games at Robert Guertiin Arena and the Sandy Hill Arena, while the football team plays games at Gee-Gees Field at Lee's Campus

The Algonquin College is another Ottawa school. It's the noted alma mater of comedians Tom Green, Jon Dore and Norm Macdonald, and country music star Jason Blaine. In Barrie, you'll want to visit the Georgian College – it's just one of seven campuses across Ontario. If you want to visit Fleming College, make the short drive west to Peterborough

As you venture south from Ottawa, head for Kingston and visit Queens University. Another public research school in the area, Queens University at Kingston was established in 1841, making it older than Canada as a whole. Drive in from Gananoque and find Queens University at Kingston on the shores of the St. Lawrence River – a short, scenic drive from the Miller Museum of Geology, and the Fort Henry National Historic Site

Queens University at Kingston is very active in sports, fielding 33 varsity-level teams nicknamed the Golden Gaels. On your visit, be sure to experience the thrills of live college sports – you can watch as the Queens Golden Gaels play ice hockey, basketball, soccer, and even cross country.

Just across the bay from Queens University is the Royal Military College of Canada. Locally known as the RMCC, this school was established in 1876 – it's a standard college, offering a wide array of degree choices, but it's goal is to create military officers. The Mackenzie Building is a main hub of information on the RMCC campus, housing different offices.

The RMCC does field sports teams – check out the Royal Military College Paladins. Head for venues like the Navy Bay Fields, the Constantine Arena, or the Kingston Community Sport Centre to watch hockey, basketball, or volleyball.
